There are many reasons for Native American Poverty such as Unemployment, disadvantages, and inadequate national response. There are many problems faced by the modern native population that the rest of the nation arent even aware of.

Native American unemployment stems from a number of reasons. Such as a lack of opportunity, misunderstandings of the effect of casinos,and an academic gap.

"A major cause of poverty in Native American communities is the persistent lack of opportunity. The Economic Research Service reports that Native American communities have fewer full-time employed individuals than any other high-poverty community. Only 36 percent of males in high-poverty Native American communities have full-time, year-round employment."

Pine Ridge reservation in Allen, SD, has the lowest in the country, at $1,539 per year.

The rate of extreme poverty on the largest reservations averages four times the national average.

The U.S was the last UN nation to sign the UN declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples.

Two race groups had poverty rates more than 10 percentage points higher than the national rate of 14.3 percent: American Indian and Alaska Native (27.0 percent)
