Ecosystems and Energy Flow Project
Objective: Demonstrate your knowledge about the flow of energy in ecosystems through the construction of various food chains, food webs, and ecological pyramids.

Slide 1: Title Slide
1. Select one ecosystem from the following list:

Grasslands
Tropical Rainforest
Temperate Forest
Taiga
Desert

Tundra
Freshwater

You may have to do some research on the ecosystem to complete this project.
Slide 2: Abiotic Factors in your Ecosystem
Describe 4 Abiotic Factors that are present in your ecosystem.
Examples include: Average Temperature, Amount of Rainfall, Types of Soil, etc.

Slide 3: Biotic Factors in your Ecosystem
Create a list of 15 or more organisms that inhabit this ecosystem. Your lists should include organisms from a variety of kingdoms (Bacteria, Protists, Fungi, Plants, Animals). You should also have a variety of producers and consumers.

Slide 4: Pictures
Use Google Search to input pictures of at least 5 of the organisms that were listed in slide 3
To add a picture on google slides:
Click Insert
Click Image
Click Search the Web
Type what picture you want in the search box that appears

Slide 5-7: Food Chains
Using the organisms from your lists above, construct at least three food chains for the ecosystem. Each food chain should contain 3 organisms. For each food chain, label ALL the following: producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers, decomposers(detrivores).

(Use insert--text box to be able to label each picture)

To add arrows:
Press the drop down menu on the arrow button on the toolbar
Select arrow
Click, hold, and drag from one organism to the next


Slide 8: Symbiotic Relationships
Describe examples of the following:
Commensalism (when one organism benefits, and the other is neither helped nor harmed)
Mutualism (both benefit)
Parasitism (one benefits and the other is harmed)
