In the 1st video, the cold blue liquid from the melting ice cube sinks down to the bottom of the tank and the hot red liquid stays on top of the room temp water. In the 2nd video, a small beaker with hot red water is put inside a larger beaker with room temperature water & then he put paper holes that floated on top.. When the Al foil is punctured , the hot liquid from the small beaker rises up on the top of the room temperature water. The paper holes moved around slowly as the hot liquid rose to the top.
The paper holes on top of the water represent the tectonic plates being carried along by the movement of the water.. This movement is a result of the principle that hot matter rise (video 1) because it has a lower density than the colder matter it is rising above. Matter sinks as it gets colder near the top because of higher density. This rise and fall of matter (magma in the Earth’s mantle) generates convection currents that drag along the tectonic plates as it moves.
