EDUCATION OR DEMORALIZATION
Have you ever thought about the drawbacks of the current education system? Lots of people, to be honest, the vast majority of them, have concerns about the system and a few people think that it is “fair enough”. In fact, the current educational system has fatal errors that put obstacles in the way of learning of students; therefore, these also affects the scientific and artistic development of the country. There are two main drawbacks of the current educational system that prevent to obtain this achievement.
First, the current educational system puts students into a race. The system has dozens of exams that are being held annually. An average student has five or more exams to enroll in a university in a year and he/she faces social and psychological pressures when taking each of them as there are millions of students who take these exams whilst there are few successful universities. To pass these successfully, students work hard, even they reduce their social activities to achieve this goal. Furthermore, during the year of the exam, their main subject when they are talking to their friends is the exam. In fact, they only talk about their grades, so they start to compete; therefore, to become the most successful, every one of them studies harder than ever. This is not a scenario written by a person who blames the system, despite this is a matter of fact, unfortunately. Not having good relationships and being in a race force student to become a kind of “problem solver robot”. As a result, they find themselves in a vicious circle, that is, they study harder to earn the respect of their peers since they do so, they become better robots and have worse friendships. This race not only puts these poor young people into the race but also kills their creativity. Going to a movie or a theatre takes a couple of hours, but our robots are not willing to waste their precious time with these unnecessary activities. Blaming them for such an attitude is not fair, though, since the educational system’s role is more crucial. Students cannot attend these activities because of their heavy workload. Another reason for this problem is, they are not encouraged to do things that may prevent them from studying, such as stated above. Most of the parents think that to enroll in the best school is vital; however, being a participant of artistic activity is more important. Having a good education is not ensured by going to the best school if the student has feelings of uncertainty that whether he/she is not doing the right thing by going to school and study all the time. In fact, attending an artistic activity or doing sports are as important as studying. Happiness and mental satisfaction are the main keys to success. Yet, the doors of efficient studying cannot be opened without these keys; therefore, another vicious circle is formed here.
Besides putting students into a race, the current educational system has a more fundamental problem. It does not provide a decent education. Firstly, it gives unnecessary knowledge. In high schools, students must learn both social scientific sciences. A lawyer of the future fills his mind unnecessarily with scientific science courses that even not attract him/her. Over and above, students become indisposed because of given unneeded knowledge. Subsequently, they find themselves in a farther phase that includes to hate the school and not to study at all; moreover, not to learn anything new from there. Most of the students face that stage and a few of them remain determined and hence, our country loses thousands of brilliant brains that could bring us one step further in the race of the developing countries. Secondly, the current educational system does not give raw information. Back in the 20th century, most of the students had not had a chance of searching for information as their only source was encyclopedias that were not convenient. In these days, libraries were the only knowledge source, so teachers had to give information about their subjects as much as possible. But today, thanks to the internet, all information can be found by just a few clicks; however, our teachers could not change their habits. As a result, how to search reliable and satisfying information and evaluating it is not learned by students. Thus, students cannot develop their own viewpoints. People who are grown with this educational system, mostly do not have consciousness of being an individual and having their own ideas.
In conclusion, the current educational system has a lot of drawbacks that prevent us to advance faster. To see bright tomorrows, this system should be changed with a new and a better one. This one must no evaluate students by only their math grades, must encourage them to find who really are they, should not force a genius musician to be an unhappy mathematician. New educational system also should teach students to build their own perspective and to be a participant. If the government take these steps, we can look the future more hopeful.
