participating in various competitive programming contests in the
previous years, most notable of which is ACM-ICPC. In an effort to
achieve better results in such contests, we are planning to start
training rather timely this year. As part of that effort, we will be
organizing 2 online contests followed by an onsite one, so that we can
gather the students interested in competing, and form teams. With the
help of METU ACM Student Chapter and our faculty, we are planning to
train these students for programming competitions in the upcoming
semester. The department is planning to fund the teams participating in
these events, based on their combined performance in the contests, and
their participation in the training sessions.
The format of the first contest will be similar to ACM ICPC, but it will
be longer than it and an individual contest, participants are not
allowed to join as teams. The first contest will start in 10th February
2018, Saturday at 10am and will finish in 11th February 2018, 10pm. It
will contain 8 to 10 questions and contest link will be announced later
on through News. Participants can join from any place they like, the
only constraint is being honest about the individualism of the contest.
For the team selection a weighted average of those three contests will
be taken into account. Also participants motivation, which will be
measured by their attendance to the above mentioned training session,
will be an important factor.
