Reading Log Intro-
Several weeks ago, I talked about how there were many types of environmental degradation, and that water degradation blah blah blah. Now, I want to focus on forest degradation, or more specifically, deforestation. Forest degradation is the biggest threat to forests worldwide. The funny/not-funny thing is that over 1.6 billion people and many, many species depend on forests to live. And, since the 1960's, over half of the world's tropical forests have been destroyed, and are still being destroyed. Countries fix this by implementing laws, but that doesn't stop businesses from cutting down trees. So, you may be thinking, what can I do to help? Well, one main solution is Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR). FLR is an effort to not just stop deforestation, but help grow the forest back as well. Not only this, but many countries have committed to FLR through the Bonn challenge, and effort to restore over 150 million hectares of land. You can contribute to helping forests, too. Just by conserving paper, you are helping a forest. You see, there is still hope for forests.
