The VEXos Robotics Operating System
VEXos is a robotics operating system that harnesses the flexibility and power of VEX hardware for the rigors of competition and the diverse needs of education. All of the VEX IQ Smart Devices — the robot brain, controller, smart motors, and sensors — contain their own internal processors and run special software called firmware. The firmware is what allows for advanced programming features. The best way to ensure that your VEX IQ system is functioning properly is to keep the robot's firmware up to date. When you unpack your new kit you must update this firmware via the VEXos Utility Update. It is also a good idea to periodically check if there are firmware updates for your VEX IQ Smart Devices.
The VEXos Utility update can be performed in three easy steps:
Plug all devices into the robot brain, and plug the robot brain into your computer via USB.

Turn on the robot brain. (Do not disconnect the motors, sensors, and controller.)

Open the VEXos Utility program, and click "Install".

When the devices are all up to date they will appear green. You can also rename the robot brain in the dialogue box shown below.

When you disconnect your robot you will see the screen below. At this point you can connect another robot and update it, too.

Important: Once you have finished updating your VEX IQ Smart devices, close the VEXos Utility before programming the VEX IQ.

Charging the VEX IQ Battery
The battery charger has an LED.
If the LED is solid red, the battery is currently charging.
If the LED is solid green, the battery is fully charged.
If the LED is blinking green, remove the battery and allow it to cool down before placing it back on the charger.
Once a battery has been fully charged, remove it from the charger and set it aside until it is needed.
Storing Batteries
Do not store charged batteries on the charger.
Do not store charged batteries in the VEX IQ Brain.
Quick Tip
To extend battery life, let the battery cool down to room temperature before charging.
