The amount of people that understand the importance of knowledge in today’s world and Socrates world are very different. The Allegory of the Cave and The Apology are two sources written by the same author, Plato, that both very well show why knowledge is important. In Allegory of the Cave, Plato speaks about a philosophy that shows prisoners in a cave whose reality is shadows on a wall. When they acquire knowledge that are able to leave the dark cave and see the world for what it really is. The Truman Show by Andrew Nicol is a very similar modern-day version of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave where a man’s whole life is actually a reality TV and the man is oblivious to this fact. Knowledge is very important in a society, especially in young because they are the people who will be the working class that can dictate the direction a country will go. The difference in modern day and back 2,400 years ago with Plato and Socrates is that in modern day people realize the important of knowledge and it is the basic goal of all young people to acquire as much knowledge as they can. 2,400 years ago, people didn't see knowledge as something necessary which is why lots of people made the same mistakes and will make the same mistakes in the future. Another thing is that the people who had power limited the amount of knowledge someone can get so that they will remain in power longer without having to face competition. The amount of people who chase after knowledge today and 2,400 is drastically different because in the past it was seen as not important and because the Upper-Class wanted to stay in control.
