-Conflicts started in 1745 when Maria Theresa became the Archduchess of Austria as well as the Holy Roman Empress after Emperor Charles VI died.
-King Frederick II of Prussia wouldn't accept this because it was detrimental to the power of the Kingdom of Prussia. He made a big fuss about it and soon he was at war with Austria.
-At first, it looked as if it were just a minor skirmish, but then, the Kingdom of Prussia was joined by the Kingdom of France, the Swedish Empire, Bourbon Spain, and the Electorate of Saxony. This would start the war of the Austrian Succession, one that the Austrians would unfortunately lose.
-The war ended with the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle. The British King, King George II, urged the Austrians to cut their losses and give up some land to Prussia. This included one of Austria's most important states, Silesia.
-Maria Theresa began to despise the King George II. In 1756, she cut her diplomatic ties with Britain and allied with the French, who, despite fighting against in the war, chose to ally with Austria as well.
