Alex: Connects elementary students who need the most with mentors, NOT tutors (that’s a misconception.) Tuesdays weekly, the students are bussed to Cornell, and we pair Cornell students with them in doing fun activities. This is to inspire the kids to pursue higher education and envision themselves attending college, especially at-risk or low-income communities. We are offering you guys the opportunity to be the Transportation Director, being the one/s who round up the kids to get on the bus and to get them to Cornell. You’re the first mentor the kids interact with, so it’s pretty important! We’ve had some difficulty getting this position filled in the past because most mentors are freshmen and they don’t have cars- so if you can get there, then you can get the bus with the kids back. For the return trip, we have someone go with the kids, and then you need to get back.

Giancarlo: Kids get out of school at 2pm, one school is the Caroline school, about one block from school. We require 2 transportation directors for each bus trip. We try to take the kids to all different places at Cornell, and the mentors take the kids from you once they get off the bus, so you’re in charge of getting the kids from one place to another.

Car?
Alex: Yes, I’ve asked the National Director about that, but really you just need to get to the bus dispatch in order to receive the kids.

Sarah: I do have a car, but we can post car needs on APO in order to get it to work.

Giancarlo: Different people every week would work, but everyone would need to do an online training and a background check, and we’d want to have the position filled consistently. They only have to do the training and check once, then they can do it as much as they want to. We do this every Tuesday. They do insurance, but it’s not required. This runs until the Tuesday before finals.

Alex: This starts next Tuesday, so we wanted to meet today in order to have this position set for the rest of the semester. When you apply, you go through the check first, and then we send the trainings (GC: The trainings don’t take too long, they’re just some slides and questions at the end.)
