Add 2cm cube of benedicts solution to 2cm cube of food sample into a test tube
Shake the mixture
Put the tube tube in a boiling water bath for 2-3mins
-results (from least to most reducing sugars present)-
Blue
Green
Yellow
Brick-red
Ethanol Emulsion test
Add 2cm cube of ethanol to 2cm cube of food sample in a test tube
Shake the contents of the test tube vigourously
Decant 3cm cube of water into the test tube and shake the mixture
-results(if fats are present)-
Cloudy white emulsion
Biuret's test
Add 2cm cube of sodium hydroxide to 2cm cube of food sample
shake the contents thoroughly
Add 1% copper (II) sulfate dropwise, shaking the mixture after each drop
-results(if proteins are present)-
purple/violet solution formed
Iodine test
Add 1 drop of iodine solution to food sample
-results(if starch is present)-
Turns blue black
