Crash Course:
Three aspects of Ancient Greek culture that still influence the modern world are literature, structure/architecture, music, theater, marathons,
A city-state is a city and surrounding areas with their own form of government.
Athenian democracy was undemocratic by modern standards because women weren’t equal or considered citizens.
War led Ancient Greeks, (spartans and athens), to think of themselves as unified because they had to rely on each other for help so they could beat the persians.
Three uses the Parthenon had over the course of millennia since its initial construction were a church, a mosp (muslims), and an armory.
The Athenians and Spartans were fighting over resources, power, and slaves.
The “Theory of Realism” in international relations is basically that the only thing that matters is power and if you have power you have control and if you don't have power you don't have control.
The city-state that won the Peloponnesian War were the Spartans.

DBQ 2- Ancient Greek Contributions:
Document 1:Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher and is known for outlining the fundamentals of western philosophy and for creating socratic irony. I would say this quote is suggesting that we have to really know who we are and what we want in life in order for our lives to matter.
Document 2: Aristotle was an ancient greek philosopher and scientist that is still known as one of the best thinkers in politics, psychology, and ethics. He believed that humans that had a purpose or knew what their goal was were superior or better than the people who didn't know exactly what they were doing.
Document 3: Pericles is describing a democracy and his expectations for citizens in this type of government were that every citizen had an equal opportunity to serve the public, don't discriminate against the poor, and a man can serve his country no matter what his position on the social scale.
Document 4: Hippocrates was a greek physician, who is considered one of the best figures in the history of medicine and he was promising to make sure to try and keep everyone alive and do everything he possibly could to help someone and not let them die.
Document 5: Euclid was a greek mathematician, sometimes called the “founder of geometry”, and he made math theorems like something being 90 degrees/perpendicular.
Document 6: The values expressed in this greek play are family because he buried his brother and it seems like he might not have been allowed to do that but he did it anyways and then also the gods because it was saying that the person he was talking to did not have as strong as a word to overrun the gods.
Document 7: Specific features of this building influenced Western civilization because in the white house it has the same pole type things at the front of the house.
Document 8: This statue reveals about Greek values that they cared a lot about the kind of sports that they had made up.
B: The Ancient Greeks contributed math, democracy, medicine, architecture, sports/statues, equal opportunity, writing techniques, and goals to Western civilization.
