Animagus adalah penyihir yang mampu merubah dirinya menjadi seekor hewan. Keberadaan wujud Animagus lebih banyak yang belum di daftarkan. Entah karena persyaratannya tidak terpenuhi atau karena penyihir tersebut dilarang untuk memilikinya. Kenapa dilarang? Karena bisa jadi dia tawanan sehingga beberapa haknya dicabut oleh Kementrian Sihir. Soalnya menurut Sirius Black, Dementor tidak bisa mencium bau dari hewan. Jadi sosok animagus bisa membantu melarikan diri dari azkaban.
