THINGS TO DO-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HIKING-----------------------------------------------------
LEWIS CREEK TRAIL: (Red Rock and Corlieu Falls)
Distance: 0.5 miles (0.8 km) round trip to Corlieu Falls; 3 miles (4.8 km) round trip to Red Rock Falls.
Elevation Gain: 300 feet (90 meters)
Hiking time: 1 - 2 hours (Red Rock Falls); 15 - 30 minutes (Corlieu Falls)
Description: The two waterfalls bookending this trail make it a memorable trip. Corlieu Falls, downstream from the trailhead, is an 80 foot (25 meter) series of cascades in a narrow canyon. Red Rock Falls is much shorter, at about 20 feet (6 meters), but compensates in width and concentration of power. The trail to Red Rock Falls is also pleasant in a daydreamy-stroll-beside-a-stream sort of way. It proceeds beside Lewis Creek, which is framed by ferns and mossy rocks, and the trail itself is lined with evergreens and dogwoods. The shady environment produced by the timber and the canyon through which the creek flows give this hike a northwestern flavor, especially in the spring.
Directions: The trailhead is located at a pullout off of Highway 41 heading north towards Yosemite. It's about 8 miles north of Oakhurst and just past the 4000 feet of elevation sign. The trail has a short downhill to start and crosses Lewis Creek. They took the bridge down recently, but when the creek is low, there are plenty of rocks to use to cross without getting wet. A hundred meters or so from the trailhead, the trail forks. Go left (upstream) to Red Rock Falls or right (downstream) to Corlieu Falls. (Note about Red Rock Falls--You'll hear Red Rock Falls before you can see it, and the trail will come to a fork. If you stay to the right, the trail will lead up to Sugar Pine; to the left leads to the waterfall.)

FRESNO DOME
Distance: 1.5 mile out and back trail
Elevation Gain: 272 feet
Difficulty: Easy-moderate (depending on the shape you’re in)
Hiking Time: 1-3 hours
Description: Lightly trafficked trail good for all skill levels. The trail is best used from July until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Directions: To reach the Fresno Dome trailhead, drive 4.1 miles North of Oakhurst on HWY 41 and turn onto road 632 signed Sky Ranch Road. This becomes Forest Rd (6S10) to Kelty Meadow, then lose the pavement as you follow signs for Fresno Dome Campground (still 6S10). You will reach a junction just before Fresno Dome Campground, and continue on road (6S10) to the right for another 2.8 miles to the turnoff for the Fresno Dome trailhead. The trail crosses a meadow, climbing gently, before pitching steeply up a barren slope to the summit of Fresno Dome. Although the dome is rocky, footing isn’t bad. The view from the top of the dome makes it worth all of the effort to get there.

HIKING TRAILS
WILLOW CREEK TRAIL: Rd 432, Bass Lake, CA, 93604
Distance: 3.6 mile loop trail
Elevation Gain: 705 feet
Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult (depending on your shape)
Hiking time: 3+ hours
Description: Willow creek trailhead starts at Willow creek parking area off of road 274. The trail ends at McLeod Flat road. The two main attractions to Willow Creek trail are Angel Falls and Devil's Slide. The rocks in this area are extremely slippery, so be careful. You can hike to Angel Falls where you can picnic on the granite or continue your hike if you feel like a longer outing. Along the way, you may encounter a bit of poison oak along the trail, plenty of mosquitoes, and midges. There may be a few nude sunbathers since there are several very secluded swimming holes both above and below the falls.
**NOTE: The water is extremely cold and fast, and the granite has been polished smooth by the water. Wear good shoes with tread on them and maybe consider some trekking poles as well. At least one person has been killed along this waterway every year for the past several years at least. Water is usually warm enough and calm enough after the 4th of July holiday, but the rock are always slippery. Dogs can be off leash, but are required to be under voice control per Sierra National Forest Regulations. The upper trail has some fencing.

BROWN'S DITCH/FLUME TRAIL: Browns Ditch Road, Bass Lake CA 93604
Distance: 4.9 mile out and back trail
Elevation Gain: 272 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Hiking time: 2-4 hours
Description: Moderately trafficked trail located near North Fork, California that features a waterfall at the end and is good for all skill levels. The trail is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail, but most don't like the grates so they have to make their own trail. Though it’s marked private property, several locals use it; just be sure to pack out all your trash. If you’re going during the summer it can get very hot, so bring plenty of water.
**NOTE: If you don’t like heights or walking on a narrow metal grid on top of a flume as it crosses over deep draws, this hike probably is not for you.)

WAY OF THE MONO TRAIL (The trailhead is located across from the Little Denver Church Day Use Area at Road 222)
Distance: 0.7 mile out and back trail, or 1.1 mile loop
Elevation Gain: 141 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Hiking time: 1 hour
Description: This is lightly trafficked trail near the lake and is good for all skill levels.. Signs along the trail describe who the Mono people were and how they lived. There are beautiful views of the lake at the top of the trail. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK--more info to come
