Notes

We went down to the marina and we went down to the beach. Our challenge was to try and find some Victorian glass that they had made ages ago then washed up to shore. We found a lot of pretty glass and some of them were sea through and some of them were not. When we were finished we went up off the beach and then went to were the little sculpture was where there was words on the floor telling you about the Seaham Collery and down the coal mines. we saw the little tools they used when they were down there. After that, we went to the statue that was in front of the big building. We looked at him and then read some words that had been on there. He was a very smart man. Next, we went to have a look at the big wheel that is down the marina and they had some poppies on them. That must mean that people had died when they used that for down the pits. I felt very sorry for the people down there and who had died when they had a very hard job collecting coal and bringing it back up and going back down there to collect some more. They had to go down there when they were very young and had to start working hard. They did not earn a lot of money then. Down the marina we had a look at the boats and had to tell if you noticed anything that used to be there and things that are not there now. Some of the boats looked very old and they did not have much room on them for not even four or five people to get on them. When we were down there we had a look near the back and we could see things that had been filled in and that they used to have been the tunnels that the coal mining people used to go through. When we had a look at a picture of where the boats were it was very different because you could see the tunnels that had not been filled up and there was no boats there but the thing in the middle is still there after years and years ago.
