Content-

Book title- The Fever Code
Author- James Dashner
About the author-
James Dashner was born and raised in Georgia but now lives and writes in the Rocky Mountains. He is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series: The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, and The Kill Order. His newest series is The Mortality Doctrine: The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts, and The Game of Lives.
Book cover-
I think the author chose this cover because it denotes a boy, most likely Thomas, in a maze, which is the biggest part of this series.
Genre-
Science Fiction-
Science fiction is a time-sensitive subject in literature. Usually futuristic, science fiction speculates about alternative ways of life made possible by technological change, and hence has sometimes been called "speculative fiction." Like fantasy, and often associated with it, science fiction envisions alternative worlds with believably consistent rules and structures, set apart somehow from the ordinary or familiar world of our time and place.
Elements-
Setting-
W.I.C.K.E.D facility and The Maze
Character analysis-
Thomas- (Protagonist)
An incredibly smart person who is also immune to the flare.
Teresa-
Another incredibly smart person who is immune to the flare and is working with Thomas on The Maze.
Chuck-
An innocent child who bonds quickly with Thomas.
Randall- (Antagonist)
A person who loves authority and is working with W.I.C.K.E.D.
Dr. Paige-
One of the main people in W.I.C.K.E.D, who gains Thomas’ trust, only to lose it in the very end.
Conflict-
Smart children that are immune to the flare are being made to work with W.I.C.K.E.D by abducting them and wiping their memories.
Climax-
When the children are sent into the maze one by one with their memories wiped, leading to the story of the first book in this series, The Maze Runner.
Solution/ending-
Dr. Paige continues the experiment and Teresa and Aris enter the maze with their memories intact while everyone else has entered the maze without their memories, building up the rest of the storyline.
Experience-
I had a lot of fun reading this book, as being the last and fifth book in the series, The Maze Runner, this book also was the prequel to the first book in the series, and this solved a lot of questions for me that had arised when I had read the rest of the series.
Quotes-
“Someday we'll be bigger.”
“One must know the problem better than the solution, or the solution becomes the problem.”
MYP Elements-
GC-
Fairness and Development- The world had developed to form W.I.C.K.E.D who were fighting against the flare and conducting experiments to do so.
KC-
Time, Place and Space- This book is the prequel to the first book in the series, making the storyline what it is and setting up everything for the rest of the story to fall into place.
RC-
P.O.V.- The character’s perspectives and suggestions on the experiment mattered to make the maze what it was.
LP-
I demonstrated the LP ‘Thinker’ as I thought about what was happening in the story and connected it to the rest of the series.
Rating-
I would rate this book a 3.5/5, as even though it is a book from one of my favorite series, it is quite up to mark as compared to previous James Dashner books, although it helps the whole story to set into place.
