He drove at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah USA, he drove his Bluebird V, rebuilt it after 1933 with a better streamlined body and a redesigned rear axle allowing him to reduce wheelspin and transmit the power to the sand better.
he had a 36.7 litre supercharged Rolls-Royce V12 for the engine which had a power output of 2,300hp!!
The Bluebird weighed 4.75 tons and was 27 feet long.
The original Bluebird cost £9,700 but another £16,000 was spent on developing the 1935 version of the car.
The Bluebird had 6 wheels, 2 at the front and 4 at the rear (in 2 pairs)These were added to try and increase traction and so reclaim some of the power being lost through wheel spin.
Sir Malcolm Campbell was born in Chislehurst, Kent on 11th March 1885, he was married 3 times and had 2 children. Sir Malcolm died 31st December 1948 at the age of 63.
