There once was a little water drop named Benny who went on a adventure through the water cycle. Benny started his day out like he had for the past three months, surrounded by hundreds of his friends in what the humans called, an ocean. He really enjoyed his time as he got to see lots of people, places, and things. His favorite place to be was by the beach as there were many people who wanted to play with him and splash around. Once he even caught a ride on a beach ball! Benny liked being in the ocean since he always had people to talk to and things to see, though he had noticed some of his water droplet friends had been going missing. One day Benny was headed over to his favorite place when he suddenly began feeling rather hot. He could remember feeling such intense heat before but could never seem to remember what happened next after so many good times where he was now. As the heat intensified it felt as though he was melting, which Benny was pretty sure was impossible for a water drop. He took a deep breath and when he opened his eyes he was heading upwards in the sky, towards his friend Mr. Sun. “Hi, Mr. Sun!” Benny yelled as he got higher in the sky. “Hello, Benny,” Mr. Sun replied, “I haven’t seen you for a while.” Benny smiled at Mr. Sun before he noticed a bunch of other water drops huddled in a group, though they looked different. “Mr. Sun,” Benny began, ‘Why do those water drops look funny?” “Why they are water vapor, of course!” Mr. Sun exclaimed. “Well, are they all friends, since they are huddling together?” Benny asked as he was beginning to miss having friends. “Yes, they are,” Mr. Sun noticed Benny’s looks of longing and added, “I’m sure they would like to be friends with you.” Benny’s eyes light up as he looked quickly between Mr. Sun and the group. “Really?” Benny asked with an uncertainty that vanished quickly when Mr. Sun just smiled. “Okay then, I’m going to go talk to them, thanks, Mr. Sun!” Benny yelled as he moved over to the group. Benny stopped on the outskirt of the group, not yet knowing if he was welcome. He remembered Mr. Sun’s words and swallowed his fear before saying, “Hi, I’m Benny and I was wondering if we could be friends.” One of the water droplets looked him over before smiling and saying, “Sure! Hi, I’m Barb. Why don’t you come closer?” Barb looked friendly enough so Benny moved over towards her. As he moved into the group he realized that there was a white tint that he could see when looking out. “Woah, do you see that?” he asked Barb. “Yeah, that means your part of our group now, we call ourselves a cloud.” Benny smiled at the name before continuing to look out the cloud. “That’s a cool name, so am I apart of the cloud too?” he asked. “Of course, silly! We’re friends and you are with us.” There Benny stayed for a few months as he learned more about Barb and being part of a cloud. Over the past few months, it had been getting colder and colder and all the water drops began getting more solid. During a conversation with Barb Benny noticed that they began to fall closer to the bottom of the cloud. Sure, they had been slowly moving downward but now he felt a lot heavier. “What is happening?” he asked Barb as he saw other water drops leave the cloud. “Now it’s time for the fun part, falling down!” she said with excitement evident in her voice. “Well, why are they staying white?” Benny asked, fear evident in his voice as they came closer and closer to their turns. “It’s cold so we’re snow, silly!” she said, “Now get ready.” Benny heard Barb’s warning as they began to fall towards Earth. “Yay!” Barb screamed in joy while Benny’s scream as a little different, “AHHHHHHHHH!” Benny screamed in fear, all he could think about was his body hitting the ground and bringing the end of his little drop life. Plop! To Benny’s surprise when he hit the ground it was soft and covered in more of his snowy friends. Barb landed gracefully next to him. “Wasn’t that fun?” she asked after laying next to him. “Sure,” Benny answered, only half trying to hide the sarcasm in his voice. All of a sudden the heard loud footprints come towards them. When Benny looked up he saw lots of children in jackets and scarfs running towards them. “Okay, maybe I was wrong, this is the fun part,” Barb said before smiling the grin that always made Benny happy. As he was scooped up into a ball with other snow he thought, “Maybe this won’t be so bad.”
