NO ONE HAD HEARD OF ME, EVER.
Their eyes used to look at me, and the same eyes pretended not to see. Sometimes one or two coins used to be dropped in front of me, it was nearly nothing, but enough to keep me going for another day...
I am not young and attractive anymore, the only thing that stays by my side now are insects, a lot of insects and i am sure they have turned into alcoholics just like me. I'm surrounded by many, and still alone.
In this busy city, i have got my favourite spot, it is located between a liquor store and a music shop.
The last 5 hours i lived were the most amazing hours of my life. I went through the lowest anybody could ever be, to the my life's highest point.
Just like everyday, i was on my corner listening to music and hoping for a better day, and it was actually going great, my only jar was the fullest it ever was before. Dusk arrived, it got colder and darker. It was nearly time for me to go find a warm place to sleep, when a majestic car stopped, and two teenagers stepped out, in my mind it was the chance i waited for all day, i had a feeling i was going to be helped. I raised my hand, and i was surprised when one of them spat on my coins.
"NOW THAT I GOT PART OF ME ON IT, YOUR COINS ARE MORE VALUABLE" he said, as he walked into the food store.
I could not hold the tears, i had never felt so embarrassed in my whole life.
I had no reaction, I was too old, weak and poor to defend myself. The people around blinded their eyes to what happened to me.
I stood up, picked up my jar, crying... i cleaned every single coin i earned and wen't looking for a warm place to lay my head for the night. In my mind i believed things were going to get better one day.
I found a place not far away from where i was, placed my jar inside my jumper and closed my eyes. Minutes later, i woke up with screams. "GET OUT OF IT, GET OUT OR I'LL BLOW YOUR BRAIN RIGHT NOW!"
I got up fast and ran to see what was going on, again i was face to face with that beautiful car.
I heard a shot being fired, it hit the driver, the passenger jumped out of the car and ran towards me, looking me in the eyes he shouted.. "PLEASE HELP, PLEASE!"
The same mouth that spat on me, cried for help. I ran towards him, just when i was about to hold his hand, i saw the robber pointing his gun in our direction. In was matters of seconds, and. in my mind i had to choose between my life or being a hero.
Shot was fired..
I closed my eyes and took a step forward, turned my back to the bullet, i hugged him whom now did not care about my smell or how dirty i was, everything went black, i could only hear voices. In the hospital, i am woken up.
"HEY, COMMON WAKE UP, YOU ARE A HERO."
I was amazed i was alive. until i realized i could not move my legs. The doctor rapidly told me a very shocking news..
"THE BULLET DAMAGED YOUR SPINE, TO REMOVE IT FROM YOUR BACK TO STOP THE BLEEDING, WE HAD TO CHOSE BETWEEN YOUR LEGS AND YOUR LIFE, I AM SORRY."
I have a million of reasons to be sad, but i chose to be happy because everything happens for a reason, right now i am a hero, or at least half of one and to have people that actually care about me in my life is great. TODAY WAS A GREAT DAY.

We should never think we are too important to help someone. if we think we are, we are fooling ourselves, we are not that important. And around here people still do not know who i am, or where i came from, but now EVERYONE hears of me.'
