-Auschwitz extermination camp was the largest extermination camp of Nazi Germany.
-No one knows the exact amount of people that died in this camp but 'Nazi /Rudolf Höss/Hoess' said that between 2.5 and 3 million had been killed, where 'Adolf Eichmann' gave a figure of 2 million.
- A French man named 'George Wellers' was one of the first to use Nazi data to estimate the number killed at Auschwitz. Around the figure of 1.613 million dead, including 1.42 million Jews and 146,000 Poles.
-Two people, namely 'Rudolf Vrba' and 'Alfred Wetzler' escaped from these camps. They presented their reports, and Allied leaders learned the truth about Auschwitz in the middle of 1944.
-Denmark was the only Nazi-occupied country that managed to save 95% of its Jewish residents. Following a tip-off by a German diplomat, thousands of Jews were evacuated to neutral Sweden.
-Of a total of about 7,000 staff at Auschwitz, only 750 were ever punished. Many went on to build good careers, including one man who became head of human resources for a large German company.
-There are approximately 500 survivors of Nazi death camps or ghettos living in Britain today.
