Binturung
Binturung (Arctictis binturong) adalah sejenis musang bertubuh besar, anggota suku Viverridae. Beberapa dialek Melayu menyebutnya binturong, menturung atau menturun. Dalam bahasa Inggris, hewan ini disebut Bearcat.
Panjang kepala dan tubuhnya antara 60 – 95 cm, ditambah ekornya antara 50 – 90 cm. Beratnya sekitar 6 – 14 kg, bahkan sampai 20 kg. Ketika lahir, binturong memiliki berat rata-rata sekitar 142 gram dan matanya masih tertutup.
Berambut panjang dan kasar, berwarna hitam seluruhnya atau kecoklatan, dengan taburan uban keputih-putihan atau kemerahan. Pada masing-masing ujung telinga terdapat seberkas rambut yang memanjang.
Ekor Binturong berambut lebat dan panjang, terutama di bagian mendekati pangkal, sehingga terkesan gemuk. Ekor ini dapat digunakan untuk berpegangan pada dahan (prehensile tail), sebagai ‘kaki kelima’.
Kemungkinan besar sistem kawin binturong adalah dengan monogami. Mereka tidak memiliki musim kawin karena spesies ini kawin sepanjang tahun. Binturong betina memiliki pseudo-penis alias penis palsu, suatu organ khas yang langka ditemui.
Spesies ini adalah makhluk nokturnal. Biasanya ia hinggap di atas pepohonan atau ada juga yg turun untuk mencari makan di siang hari.
Meski termasuk bangsa karnivora, namun makanan utama spesies ini adalah buah-buahan yg masak di hutan. Ia juga memakan pucuk dan daun-daun tumbuhan, telur, dan hewan-hewan kecil semisal burung dan hewan pengerat. bau binturong seperti popcorn
