Phoenix adalah satwa gaib yang berwujud burung dengan bulu berwarna merah dan emas di sekujur tubuhnya. Phoenix memiliki paruh berwarna emas dan hitam serta mata yang juga hitam. Phoenix juga memiliki ekor yang panjang, sepanjang merak.
Bulu phoenix mampu bercahaya dalam gelap. Bulu phoenix juga dapat dibuat menjadi inti tongkat sihir yang kabarnya sangat kuat. Namun, jangan coba-coba menyentuh bulu phoenix jika warna bulunya berwarna emas, karena sangat panas. Bulu phoenix bisa menjadi sangat panas karena bisa saja sebagai pertahanan diri phoenix disaat mereka ingin diserang musuh.
Phoenix merupakan herbivora dan selama ini tidak ada catatan yang mengatakan bahwa phoenix bertarung satu sama lain/melawan penyihir. Selain itu, phoenix itu immortal (abadi) karena ketika mati, phoenix akan kembali ke wujud tanpa bulu dan dalam beberapa hari ia akan kembali ke wujud semula.
Phoenix dikenal immune (kebal) terhadap semua sihir/kutukan termasuk kutukan mematikan sekalipun. Mitosnya, air mata juga phoenix bisa menyembuhkan luka. Selain itu phoenix juga dapat ber-apparate (berpindah tempat/muncul dan menghilang kapan saja) seperti penyihir.
