Ancient Rune atau Rune Kuno adalah ilmu yang mempelajari huruf-huruf atau simbol kuno. Rune adalah alfabet Jerman Kuno yang digunakan di Eropa Utara, Skandinavia, Kepulauan Britania, serta Islandia.
Rune memiliki kaitan erat dengan masyarakat kuno. Mereka percaya para dewa mengalirkan kekuatan dalam batu-batu rune dan ada kekuatan magis bagi penggunanya. Rune berkaitan dengan Ramalan.
Rune berasal dari bahasa Nordik kuno ‘Runa’ yang berarti ‘rahasia’ atau ‘misteri’. Rune pertama digunakan pada tahun 100 Masehi, dan ada sumber bahwa rune terakhir digunakan untuk komunikasi tahun 1.700. Rune masih digunakan hingga saat, meski tidak sering.
Jaman dahulu belum ada alat bantu tulis, huruf Rune yang berbentuk seperti paku. Pedagang mengukir huruf Rune dibatu, dikayu, logam untuk menuliskan perjanjian mereka. Karena para pedagang selalu berpergian kesana kemari huruf Rune jadi menyebar luas juga.
