Summary:
This article mainly focuses on the cause of fire and the information on what occurs during one. Any flame requires three important components: oxygen, fuel, and heat. Missing even one of these components will not result in a fire. Typically the easiest component to find is oxygen, because it is found almost everywhere. Fuel is considered to be anything that burns, but not all fuels ignite at the same temperature. Applying heat to atoms causes them to move around faster and eventually they will break the bonds that are keeping them together. These unbound atoms mingle with the oxygen in the air creating a hot gas, this hot gas is the blue light at the base of the fire. Eventually these atoms go through oxidation (bonding with oxygen atoms in the air) they either create carbon dioxide(carbon bonding with oxygen) or water vapour(hydrogen bonding with oxygen). Atoms released from the fuel are combined with oxygen atoms nearby releasing more energy. This results in releasing more atoms, and heating the oxygen. The orange and yellow colours in a flame are when free-floating carbon atoms are heated and begin to glow. The thick black soot is also made up by the carbon atoms.
