As an application of our lesson on Christianity as organized religion, you will interview a married couple who are adherents of Christianity, Roman Catholic or Protestant.
Guidelines:
1. For the first part, ask them why they chose to be Christians. Ask them about the joys and struggles of being Christians these days, what makes them persevere in the faith, and how they see themselves making a difference in today's society as a Christian.
2. For the second part, focus on the topics of marriage and family and how Christianity has influenced their views, beliefs, and practices pertaining marriage and family. Ask: a) What do you think is the advantage of being a Christian couple? b) What Christian teachings and values sustain your relationship as husband and wife? c) What do you believe is the main responsibility of Christian parents? d) What Christian teaching and values influence the way you parent your child/children? e) What hope do you have in Christ for your family?
3. Use the answers to these interview questions to write a 1-page typewritten essay that summarizes what the couple believes about marriage and family from a Christian perspective. Your last paragraph should be a short reflection about your reaction to the answers given by your interviewees, and whether or not you find their views agreeable and why. Give your essay a title. Format: Standard font, size 10-11, 1.5 spacing (MS Word)
4. Submit your essay by uploading it here on or before Thursday, AUGUST 30. (Work on this early so that you will not cram it the night before because you also have a Long Quiz in Philosophy on that day.) Your essay will be graded for its Content (substance, compliance to the guidelines and expected answers, and original insights), Composition (unity, clarity, and coherence of ideas, grammar and construction, compliance to format guidelines).
