Jurassic park by Michael Crichton is a fictional story about humans trying to play god, genetic engineering, a dinosaur amusement park and heavy foreshadowing. This book having existed since 1990 has been adapted into multiple films and is recognizable by almost anyone who appreciates good cinema; however there is a lot more to look into than just the story. There is much to learn about how Crichton uses literary devices in his writings. Written by Michael Crichton, Jurrassic park is a story about a dinosaur themed amusement park in which Mr.Crichton uses foreshadowing very heavily.
Born in 1942, Michael Crichton spent his life centered around science. Michael Crichton graduated from Harvard with a medical degree and was always interested in the sciences. This led to his writings being centered around many science related topics from dinosaurs in Jurrassic Park to Medicine is his show ER. His most popular writing, Jurrassic Park is a story about paleontologist Alan Grant who has to escape an ill fated dinosaur themed park started by Mr.Hammond in Costa Rica with one major twist. Scientists at the park have brought back the dinosaurs with the power of genetic engineering. This eventually leads to some catastrophic proceedings, in which not everyone makes it out alive.
One of Crichton's favorite things to use in this book is foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is using dialogue, descriptions, or actions to hint at future events that may happen in the story. A Prime example of this is mathematician Ian Malcom. If foreshadowing was a man it would be him. Throughout the book he is constantly pointing out that chaos will ensue. He keeps mentioning that nature cannot be controlled or just flat out saying that stuff is going to call Albert like on page 84 when he just flat out says, "There is a problem with that island. It is an accident waiting to happen." This is clearly foreshadowing because beforehand he was explaining chaos theory and how the island is destined to be unpredictable as they all eventually learn it turns out to be (page 8). Apparently when it comes to Malcom and dinosaurs Crichton knows foreshadowing is there name of the game.
