The meteor came with these crystals. When consumed, they allow you to bounce and not take damage on impact. Sound fimiliar? The cube is bouncy and *indestructable*. The visitor wants to use this immense power for something. He tracked down the location of the meteor in hopes to get even more. The crystals were used to power his ship, giving electricity. Once he created the rift, aka the wormhole, he was able to transfer the cube onto the island. He literally put in a small amount of energy and got a 100 ton brick of this material. This material when consumed reacts with the body and gives it immense energy. On a larger scale with more surface area, the cube reacts with all of the oxygen around in a way that forms electricity in the process. The reaction is much stronger with solid objects, so when hit, the force of too great for the body, launching you back. It would also explain why bouncing on top gives you shield. Some of the energy gets absorbed into the body because there is no ground for it to transfer to on impact. Just a theory.
