The Power Of Google Social Impact
With Google+ and the future of mobile devices, Google has introduced two new products at a time that will affect the internet landscape, and it looks like they are focusing on two areas. One is called Google+ Local, which will allow users to share local information with their social networks. The other product is called Google Wave, which gives you a place to find information from the "Google Now" app. Here are some of my takeaways from both of these upcoming applications.

It looks like Google wants to bring together all of your activity from Gmail, Google+ Local, and Google Wave. That means everything you post will show up in one place, together with any images or links you might have shared. agency will allow you to present more information about yourself to the people you care about most. You might also be able to pull up information from all of your other accounts, on the same page as everything else. It's unclear whether this will replace existing sharing options on the various social networks, but it does look like it could be a useful option to consider.

Google recommends using the Google+ Local account to manage everything. You will need to log in with your Google account to do this, but it does let you manage multiple profiles, so you can get information from one place and more from another. It would be neat if you could manage several things on one account, but it looks like this one won't live up to its name just yet. I'm not sure whether this application will be all it's hyped up to be, or if it will end up just being another interface for you to get some basic information from the social networks.

The way Google seems to be gearing their apps around Wave, they are probably trying to get you to take advantage of the app. You might want to go ahead and get yourself signed up for it, but it's unclear whether you'll be able to use it on everything. Some of the information is only available in certain places, such as on the mobile site, so you may have to check in more frequently to get the updates. For some, it might be too much of a hassle, and they will probably want to wait until the app gains more popularity before they dive in.

The other thing that I'm curious about is the integration of location-based services. Many people use their phones to browse the web and want to be able to find out information right there on the spot. agency may be looking up restaurant reviews, or wondering how to get a reservation at the bar they are interested in visiting. It would be great if you could just head over to Google Maps and figure out where the restaurants are located, and make your reservations there. This is something that you will be able to do from any browser, so this is an obvious benefit to the service.

One aspect of Google's plan is to provide "discovery results" on your personal profile page. This basically means that when you do a search on your Google profile, you will get a list of results from all over the world. Depending on what you are searching for, you might be surprised by all the different information you can uncover. You might want to find out why a particular business is closing down, or find out the background of an advisor you are considering hiring. These types of things will make it easy for you to determine whether or not you should continue to do business with this company.

Since it has been released, there are already some great examples of information being shared on Google+. You can type in a search term, and get information such as reviews written by past customers of a restaurant, or pictures posted by customers on social media sites. You can also get statistics on the demographics that a certain area falls into, so you can see which places are more popular than others. You will be able to instantly prioritize the areas that you're most interested in, and get a more complete experience from these social networking tools.

Overall, this is a valuable tool for businesses to use. Even if you don't think your business needs this information, you should definitely consider trying it out. Google has provided an interface that makes it very easy to explore, and one that makes gathering information simple and quick. You might like what you see and decide you would like to integrate some of this information into your own social media strategy.
