Pathos, or "pathetic appeal" - appeal to emotion.
Put them in particular emotional state to better get audience to believe argument.
figurative language - refers to language to "figure" to something else
Types:
1) Metaphor
2)Simile
3)Euphemism - A way to refer something inappropriate or taboo in a gentler way.
4)Rhetorical questions
5)Parallelism: involves gramatically similar phrases or clauses.
6)Irony
7)Personification

Exaggerated Pathos uses:
1)Scare Tactic - telling hearer that something bad will happen to him if he doesn't accept the argument
2)Slippery Slope - implies one action would lead to another with no proof it will
3)Over-sentimentalization - use tender emotions excessively to distract readers from facts. i.e(PETA)
4)Bandwagon appeal - Just because everyone is doing something you should too
5)False need - author amplifies need or completely creates a new one

Inflammatory Language(e.g figurative language)
Emotion to build bridges(e.g sad stories etc.)

Ethos:

1. Ethos based on practical skills and wisdom.
2. Ethos based on virtue and goodness.
3. Ethos based on goodwill toward the audience.

+ Construct a sense of common ground - shared values and make connection with audience
+ Use credible sources to better solidify argument
+ Acknowledge opposing argument to then refute.

Ethos Fallacy:
Ad hominem - criticizes author or tone as opposed to content - attacking individual as oppose to arguement
Argument from authority - uses authority as a way out
Association fallacies - "guilt by association"
Appeal to anon authority
