Do you want to get Minecraft working easily on Steam Deck or a regular Linux desktop without much fuss? This is one way to accomplish this and it's a breeze. I've chosen the PolyMC launcher (a version of MultiMC) available on Flathub as the official Minecraft launcher Flatpak doesn't save your password on Steam Deck and PolyMC of course supports modding too.

Text steps
- Install PolyMC via the Discover Software Centre on Steam Deck or Flathub directly for desktop Linux. - Launch PolyMC and then add your account to the upper right corner of. Leaves Farm It supports Mojang as well as Microsoft logins. In the main PolyMC Settings, click Minecraft in the left-hand panel, then select the option to close PolyMC when the game window is opened. In the event that you load the game in Game Mode / Deck UI on Steam Deck it will switch between the two windows. Make sure that in the PolyMC Settings that Java is updated to the latest version, which is necessary for the latest version of Minecraft. Click on Add Instance in the top left. Next, choose normal Minecraft or mods with built-in search. It will install everything you require. To start Steam directly, go to the Games menu at the top, and click Add a non-Steam game. Then find PolyMC in that list.
Some YouTube users suggested trying some optimized modpacks, but really I didn't see a big enough difference in terms of performance or power consumption to make them actually worth it on Deck when compared to vanilla Minecraft when testing on the same map seed. Although controller mods are available, they're not often updated and only work with certain Minecraft versions. So I recommend using Steam Input and adjusting a few keys.
