Avanos Medical Recalls Cortrak*2 Enteral Access Systems
Avanos Medical (U.S. Cortrak 2 eternal access system Food and Drug Administration) has announced that it is recalling Cortrak*2's Enteral Access System. Avanos Medical feeding tube The recall was initiated due to patient injuries and deaths caused by misplaced nasoenteric/nasoga tubes. The recall includes 629 devices in use in the United States.

Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos markets its Cortrak*2 enteral access device for its visualisation of the small bowel as well as stomach, which assists in the placement of a medical feeding tube. When a tube is placed incorrectly, it could result in damage to the vocal cords, the lungs and trachea. Avanos Medical recalls that there have been 60 incidents, 23 deaths and 23 illnesses resulting from the misplacement or inadvertent insertion of a feeding tube for nasogastric patients using the CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System. Injuries have included respiratory failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and perforation (a hole in the wall of the lung, esophagus, or bowel) as well as pneumonia and an effusion of the pleura (excess fluid between the lungs and chest cavity).
