Minecraft's ray tracing function for Windows 10 has made its release from beta eight months after the feature first became available for testers. The look and feel of the sandbox game has been transformed by the addition ray tracing support to NVIDIA's RTX graphic cards. As we mentioned in our hands-on post earlier this year the realistic lighting, reflections and shadows this feature provides make Minecraft feel more immersive. Although the game is still unreal, the in-game lighting appears real. Shadows and reflections can make it feel as if you're in the real world.
You will be able to see the benefits of ray-tracing in the game if have a PC that is equipped with one of NVIDIA GPUs that support the ray-tracing. The improvements it brings will only be apparent in maps and worlds that utilize a specific physically based rendering texture pack, but you don't have to do anything to enable it - it's already turned on by default. Players who don't have the feature will see the worlds of the game in its standard visuals.
NVIDIA announced that ray tracing puts greater demands on your GPU. So, it employs its DLSSAI rendering technology to ensure that Minecraft can run at minimum 60 frames per second at 1920x1080. The most advanced GPU models (RTX 3080 and 3090) can play the game in 4K resolution at over 60FPS.

You can download worlds you can play using ray tracing on from the Marketplace or create your own with assistance from NVIDIA's starter pack for those who require. Minecraft and NVIDIA are also releasing two new worlds for free: Colosseum RTX is already available, and Dungeon Dash RTX is coming shortly.
