The FDA has discovered Avanos Medical's recall of Cortrak*2 entry access system. 629 devices, distributed between 2016 and 2022, were recalls by the U.S. starting on March 21.
Cortrak 2 eternal access system Cortrak*2 is a tool that permits doctors to place medical feeding tubes inside patients stomachs or small bowels.

The device is used to assist in placing the tubes. Incorrectly inserting a nasogastric tube or nasoenteric can result in serious injury or even death.

The adverse events reported included pneumonia, perforation, respiratory failure, pneumonia, in addition to the development of pleural effusion.
Cortrak*2 has used this recall to update the instructions for its use and intended uses. Avanos Medical Users will need to verify the location of tubes in accordance with established protocols before they are able to deliver nutritional supplements.
Clinicians were instructed to add the relevant field correction notice in the operating manual. feeding tube placement They also need to return the acknowledgement slip which came along with the Avanos note. Avanos will shortly be able to send out updated labeling for users, which will include confirmation of the placement of tubes as per institutional policies.
