How to use Split-Screen With Minecraft

Do you remember the times when you played console games with your friends in a split-screen? You can now evoke those memories and make incredible new ones using Minecraft split-screen. This feature is only available on consoles (Nintendo Switch and PlayStation), but it is possible to create new memories by using Minecraft split-screen.

Your console or TV screen needs to support at least 720p resolution. PlayStation Vita doesn't support split-screen because it's QHD (1/4 of 1080p). WiiU doesn't support split screen either since it has only 480p resolution. You'll have to connect your device to a TV with an HDMI or RGB component cable.

Find out more information here and detailed steps on splitting the screen in Minecraft.

Minecraft Splitscreen Requirements

As we've mentioned earlier, you'll need a console and a TV screen with 720p or higher. Additionally, you must adjust the resolution of your console to match that of the TV. This is straightforward. Navigate to your console's settings and then move on to the display options. PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and Switch usually automatically set the resolution when using HDMI, although previous manual adjustments may result in an issue that requires manual reconfiguration.

You can split the screen in Minecraft locally or online. The local split-screen is able to accommodate up to four players at once. If you have a large TV screen, playing with friends or family members is a lot of fun. Let's start with the basics of local split-screens. Later the online split-screen will get explained as well.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Locally

Local split-screen is the term used to describe playing on one console, and not being mistaken with LAN (local area network) game, where multiple devices get used. On any device up to four players can join the game. The instructions for playing Minecraft in split-screen mode vary slightly for each game console, however, the steps below will cover them all.

Here's how to set up a local split-screen in Minecraft:

1. Connect the console to the TV via an

7. If you're not previously, you must select the account to be used by the other player. XBOX 360 and PS3 use the Minecraft Legacy Console Edition, which means you must first press

on the second controller, to get into the game, and it will prompt the player to log in to the console.

How to Split-Screen Minecraft Online

You can play Minecraft on a split-screen with your local friends, as well as playing with other players online. In the same way online play cannot be played on a split-screen, but two or more local players can use the split-screen while playing with players online. Here's how to set the split-screen up for online play.

1. Log into your console using your Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus account. Local accounts and players on XBOX 360 or XBOX One cannot join the XBOX 360 or XBOX One. PlayStation Plus is not required for the PS3, but it is required for the PS4.

2. For Minecraft Legacy editions, open on your console, and then select Play Game and then Load or Create. Select Create New for Bedrock editions or choose an option from your list.

3. Adjust your game options to your liking and launch your game. Before you begin the game go to the Bedrock Multiplayer menu. Make sure Multiplayer is turned on.

4. Other "remote players" can select your invitation (required), to join your hosted gaming. Split-screen is only available per console with up to 4 people, but they can play online with others.

Minecraft's an interesting, fun and imaginative game. It's like any other game. It's much more fun to play with friends. You can now split the screen to play Minecraft similar to playing older console games with other players.

PC users may feel excluded however, which is perfectly normal. It's unfortunate that a big screen cannot be split and used in the same way as consoles. You can look online for third-party screen-splitting software however, they might not be reliable and aren't legally licensed.
