How To Update A Minecraft Server

To update a Minecraft server, create a folder, select the files you want to keep, except logs, eula and Old Server, then place them in that folder. MINECRAFT SERVER LIST Select and delete the remaining files. Next, download Minecraft server executables from the official site. Place the new executable into the existing folder. Open the text document and change the line to 'eula=true'. Finally, copy your files back to the original folder by taking them from the folder you created.

Step by Step Guide

You won't need to modify the Minecraft server's software - that is, the.jar/.exe file. This method will ensure that your world and other settings are carried over to your new server.

First, navigate to the Minecraft server's files. Where the properties files are located and where the main executable is kept.

Create a new folder, it can be titled anything as it will only be used for updating the server and nothing afterward.

Select the following files: the world' folder. Place them into the new folder you just created.

You will now have a folder called 'logs' and a text file called 'eula'. The main server executable is also left. These files belong to your old server and will be removed when you upgrade.

Navigate on to the Minecraft website, and you can download the most recent Minecraft server executable.

The new server executable should be placed in the folder that contained your old server files. Next, run the server.

The server will not start. Instead, it will create new versions of the files that you have just deleted and a'server properties' file.

Open the text document titled 'eula' and change the line that reads 'eula=false' to 'eula=true'. This is Minecraft's End User License Agreement. You must agree to it before your Minecraft server can run.

Now that your server is ready to go, copy your files from the folder you created and then move them back to where it came from. Keep an extra copy of your files in that folder in case something goes wrong.

Make sure to replace any files in the new folder and once everything is there start your server executable.

It will display your normal server window and load your world. Your Minecraft server has been updated!
