Types of Cells and Structures Cells can be very different
from one another. Red blood cells, shown below on the left, are
disk-shaped. Their shape helps them move through blood
vessels and carry oxygen throughout the body. Xylem cells,
shown in the center, are tubelike cells that transport water in
plants. Neurons, shown on the right, are cells found in many
animals that transmit information from one part of the body to
another. Cells work together and ensure the body functions.
