California's Paid Sick Leave Law, AB 1522 (Chapter 317, Statutes of 2014) requires all employers in California to provide employees with paid sick leave. Employees can use this paid sick leave for their own health condition, to care for a family member who has a serious health condition or needs preventative medical treatment, or for a variety of other reasons as outlined in the law.
Employers must offer the paid sick leave at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. Alternate accrual methods are also acceptable if they comply with the law.
Covered Employees
As of July 1, 2015, all employers in California must provide their employees with paid sick leave. Those workers include full-time, part-time, seasonal, or temporary employees who work for an employer for at least 30 days during a 12-month period.

COVID-19 Supplemental Sick Leave
In 2020, the state enacted SB 95, which gave all California workers up to 80 hours of SPSL (Supplemental Paid Sick Leave) in addition to the minimum required under the Act. This extra leave was designed to provide workers who were impacted by the omicron variant of the coronavirus with more time to recover from the disease and its side effects.
