1. real time, sistem ini memiliki waktu respon yang cepat. real time terbagi menjadi dua jenis yaitu embedded system hard real-time dan embedded system soft real time
2. stand alone, sistem yang dapat bekerja sendiri
3. networked, sistem yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan jaringan ke sumber akses, sprti melalui LAN, WAN, atau internet
Berdasarkan kinerjanya pada mikrokontroler: Skala kecil, Skala menengah, Skala besar
Aspek-Aspek Penting
1. biaya, komponen yang optimal memungkinkan untuk implementasi sistem dengan biaya serendah”ny
2. batasan waktu, embedded system harus dapat menangani masalah jika suatu saat real time system mengalami masalah
3. interaksi langsung dengan dunia nyata, jadi jika ada masalah dengan embedded system itu akan berdampak besar daripada sistem komputer biasa
4. batasan energi, embedded system mengambil daya dan energi dari baterai
5. elektronika, embedded system merupakan sistem yang sangat erat kaitannya dengan elektronika maka serangan juga mungkin didapatkan secara elektrik
