Recognizing Signals Of Approaching Death
When my wife's mother, "Grandma G," died, she left us many gifts and intangibles. She also left us something very tangible, that in the immediate hour of need, was her most thoughtful gift. She had prearranged and paid for her funeral in exacting detail. This single act, greatly lowered the magnitude of stress that her death had caused.

The old handyman was a familiar sight in Eagan Creek. Dressed in his usual attire, faded bib overalls, a plaid flannel shirt and a sweat-stained brown fedora, folks treated him more so as an oddity than as a hired workman. Strange and aloof, he didn't fit into this tight-knit community. People found him unsettling, especially those gray eyes hiding behind steel-rimmed glasses--haunting, suspicious. And the deep wrinkles in his face left questions, maybe a vengeful and unforgiving life? Sometimes he could be abrupt and thick-headed. Yet he was a capable worker, even at seventy-one years, lean of body, hair nearly white. Somehow, he managed a meager existence, watching his pennies, working a half-day here, an hour there.


The Procession. It's also called the cortege. It's the procession from the funeral chapel, or church, to the grave site as a symbol of support by the public honoring the death. Our family and friends were led to the final resting place by the hearse containing the casket. The funeral home arranged a police escort for the procession and set up covered seating for family members at the grave site.

Who wouldn't know the father of psychology? Sigmund Freud died at the age of 83 from cancer of the jaw. He was the founder of the first psychoanalytic school of psychiatry. He was also a neurologist.

The best color for a funeral gasket flower is the person's favorite color. I believe their spirit will be appeased when you use their favorite color. I have noticed that most people adore pink-looking objects. If the person's favorite color does not fall under flower, then you may as well get a pink colored flower for them. It is not a must that the whole color of that flower will be pink-colored.

Back to our views of death, where to they come from? We know they are taught to us by our family. There is also who we are that determines this as well. That intangible feeling we have in the pit of our gut. Some call it a conscience, but I see it as something beyond that. I see it as a set of rules that lies within the core of each of us. Through our entire lives we are witnesses to death. From the moment we enter the world to the point at which we become aware of the concept is the only freedom we enjoy from death during our lives. If we die during this time period than we leave this world never knowing the sadness of the death of others. Not just people either.



Acknowledging what you fear about death is the first step to overcome it. Talk to your friends or family about the reasons you fear death. Not only will you help yourself with your fear of death but them as well. Seek professional help if you need to. Death is a part of life, don't live your life fearing it.
