Seamus, seorang anak berumur delapan tahun, tampak sedang bermain di dapur. Di depannya banyak piring. Ada satu piring berisi kentang yang dipotong-potong menjadi empat bagian. Seamus menaruh kentang ke dalam sebuah piring tembaga dan seng yang telah diikat dengan kawat pada sebuah lampu yang kecil. Dia mengangguk dengan bangga ketika bola lampu mulai berpijar. Dia men-disconnect lampu kecil itu, mengikatkan kembali volt meter itu pada lampu pijar. Dia mengulang proses tersebut pada buah apel, menguji lampu kecil dan voltmeter sekali lagi. Kemudian dengan buah beri, lemon, wortel, dan sebagainya. Ayah Seamus masuk ke dapur dan Seamus mendongak, “Anggapan saya tentang buah beri benar, ayah,” katanya, “Kita bisa menggunakannya sebagai baterai, beberapa yang lain (yang tidak bisa)...”
