Shock Absorbers/Dampeners
shock absorbers dampen the movement of your car. without shocks the springs will carry on bouncing the car up and down and can be next to impossible to control. shocks absorb that movement (kinetic energy) and slowly extend and descend using oil or gas compression making it a more comfortable drive and easy to control. they control unwanted spring motion by changing kinetic energy of suspension travel to heat energy that's channelled away using hydraulic fluid. inside a shock absorber is a rod attached to a piston that moved up and down inside the cylinder filled with hydraulic oil or nitrogen gas depending on the type of shock/car. shocks are bolted on the vehicles frame and to the suspension of each wheel. they are either bolted by a "pin" which is a thread bolt with a nut on the other side or an "eye" which is a bolt going through a rounded bush. when a wheel hits a bump in the road the rod moved the piston down which then compresses the hydraulic oil to squeeze into specially designed passages called a "chamber", however the passages are small which causes everything to happen slowly, by doing so, springs are prevented to bounce continuously.
Lower Arms/Wish Bone/Control Arms
a control arm ("wish bone") is a part of the suspension system. its sort of looks like a boomerang and is connectd to the steering knuckle and the other connected to the vercles chassis. The lower control arm is an important part of suspension. It provides a strong connection between the wheel and the suspension system, it keeps the wheel in sync. For example, what happens when one of your front wheels hits a pothole? The lower control arm helps the wheel move up and down with the suspension system. in conclusion the lower arms keep the car and wheels in contact ith the road and keep the drive comfortable and safe.
