While cutting off the medicine you must follow the advice of your doctor and follow a pattern of dose tampering for at least two to three weeks to avoid withdrawal effects. You must also adopt a sleep hygiene pattern to sleep well.


I have never been able to sleep well, but my insomnia was not consistent, it comes and goes depending upon my stress, anxiety, or other problems. However, I was suffering from some health issues. A few years back I was diagnosed with heart valve disease which causes severe anxiety and nightmares. I was unable to sleep for nights. There were nights when I took a sleep of only two to three hours and there were nights when I completely remained unable to sleep at all. This lack of sleep was exaggerating my insomnia. My anxiety and insomnia were feeding each other and I was getting frustrated and tired. Sometimes, I became exhausted and just wish to enjoy a peaceful sleep.


I was scared of using sleep medications because of their side effects. I have also heard that these sleep medications causes’ dependence and you become habitual to them. But my condition of insomnia was that worst that I decided to seek medical help. I took Ambien, and to my surprise, it not only helps me with my insomnia and anxiety but also changed my attitude. I was always worrying about my health and heart surgery but this medication helps me to feel lighter.


Before taking medications I always felt so tired that I was actually struggling to exercise and enjoy life. But now I am back to life, I am exercising, reading, and performing my daily rituals. I have started



enjoying stress-free periods. I started with a low dose of Ambien and at the beginning, I took it on daily basis just to get through my difficult time. But now I only take it when I genuinely feel that I need it.

Medicines are your fried if used correctly and wisely. But if medicines are abused then they become poison. Use or abuse depends on you. If you use sleeping pills for recreation and start taking overdose just to get high then you will get dependent on them. Overdose will also develop tolerance in you in a very short time and you will crave for a higher dose to get the desired results.
