North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.
WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.
Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.
A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

North Carolina, Raleigh Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a glue trap ultimately trapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.
As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.
She said she feels much safer now and is very happy. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. Even so, I feel kind of sorry for the snake.
There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.
Having a snake that can spit up to nine feet long can make even a morning dog walk a frightening experience. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.
Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A high fever and breathing difficulties would follow, which could lead to respiratory failure.
At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.

The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they are very accurate and attack straight in the eye, according to her.
Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.
Most bites occur when a person is sleeping. The effects of being bitten may last for years, according to research.
In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.
In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. On Monday and Tuesday, they returned after spotting the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
There are records in the county indicating Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. In a Facebook profile associated with Keith Gifford's name, there are several pictures of snakes he says his son Christopher owns.
Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. The author of the post claims to have a seven-foot zebra cobra.
