How can you keep up with music in your country of origin even if you've lived in the country for the last 10+ years

How are you getting on? So, I reached America. There is nothing quite like New York City, Brooklyn, Brighton Beach. This place is a great reminder of home. It's loud, it's filthy, it's full of Russian spoken words, people are rude,, just a normal Russian city experience. I've spent quite a bit of money there, mostly going to Russian restaurants, music and books shops.

I love music and reading books. As it turned out recently, you can find Russian books on Kindle. Therefore, I have stopped buying books in hardcopy. In addition, I don't have enough space in my house. My wife is almost an over-seller. So I do everything I can to not add to her clutter. The stacks looked nice for the first few weeks however, they began to look sad. I eventually moved them into my garage, which still is big enough for my belongings.


Music, however, is distinct. My job involves an extensive amount of driving, so I listen to tons of music. As a Russian native, I haven't been able to appreciate any of the new music that I’ve found in the USA. I'm not a fan of hip-hop, rap or metal, rock or pop. The new stuff that kids enjoy dancing to. The old Russian music is a thing I cherish, as well as the Russian-specific songs from jail. They're still popular after 20 years I've been away, and they are not something that gets on CDs, but rather tapes that are found in cars, as well as Youtube videos. Youtube has everything nowadays. When I return home after work, I spend hours listening to Youtube music.

After a while I was able to make a playlist that was over 300 songs which I thoroughly like. This is my constant companion. I can listen to it throughout the day, and I don't have any issues getting it used. There are 300 songs! But, when I need to listen to them in my car I do not have internet access. I require it for navigation and driving. Therefore, I prepare at home. I'm in the middle of my list I record a few songs from Youtube into mp3 files then I burn the mp3s onto a CD with my laptop. After that, I take the CD to my car and listen. The website can print the entire Youtube playlist, and then convert each song to mp3 to save to my home computer. It is then possible to convert the mp3 into an audio disc. Sometimes, I make data discs and it won't play on the car stereo. When audio is recorded, it's amazing how technology operates. It's not necessary to be connected to mp3s, all I need is a CD to insert into my car's stereo. The music from Russia is blasting through Manhattan while I was driving around.

It's simple and affordable to download videos from Youtube and convert them to MP3 format so that you can save them to your smartphone. A friend of mine connected his iPhone to his car stereo and within seconds it was playing high quality sound. He also was able stream Pandora radio as well as Spotify, so it's not even requiring a lot of Internet to do this. This is something I would test. However, I'll be sure not to use the free wifi.
