What Is an Induction Cooktop and How Does It Work?
What exactly is an induction cooktop? The biggest difference between glass cooktop and induction cooktop ranges in its power to cook food fast. Glass cooktops have always been considered the "old-fashioned" way to cook, with their slow, methodical heating process that takes even longer than induction cooktops. However, with the introduction of newer technology and better manufacturing techniques, induction cooktops have risen to the challenge, proving themselves much more desirable in terms of both style and overall performance. Induction cooktops have been the latest cooking device to emerge from the kitchen scene, quickly gaining in popularity thanks to a number of unique selling points.

So what are some of the pros of induction cooktops? One of the best benefits to these types of devices is that they are highly energy efficient, using very little electricity to heat the food. This means that the whole process can be completed without leaving you waiting on a gas line or electricity source. Another pro is that these types of cooktops often require far less maintenance than other types of material used for preparing food, as you can often use it without any damage being done to the surface.

Some of the cons of induction cooktops, however, exist. One of the major problems with this type of cooker is that it takes a bit longer to get to the desired temperature when using it compared to a stovetop device. This can mean that you may need to preheat your water a few times before using the cooker, although you will find that the overall time taken to prepare a pot of boiling water is significantly less. One con also relates to the potential of build up of steam underneath the cooktop, meaning that certain foods may need to be prepared a little sooner if placed on a stovetop before being placed in the cooker. These instances will occur more if you are using aluminum versus stainless steel. However, the majority of people can usually get around these issues by ensuring that they only boil water for the amount of times required.

Another issue with induction cooktops is that the glass is susceptible to breakage. Many users claim that this is not really an issue, but keep in mind that these cooktops do require a specific amount of force to lift the glass up from the base. Since the glass is made of a metallic material, it is often held securely in place using metal clips or screws. If these clips or screws become loose, it can result in the glass coming out and then dropping into the food, which can burn it. However, the majority of people are able to prevent this from happening, and are still finding that these types of cooktops work well for them.

The main disadvantage of an induction cooktop is that it requires a fairly high level of skill to install. Unless you are professionally trained in installing electrical appliances, it is usually recommended that you hire a professional installer to do the job. It is also important to realize that the speed at which your stove heats your food will be affected by the position of the induction coil and how close the coil is to the surface of the stove. If you want to get an extremely fast stove top, then you may have to compromise the overall efficiency of the appliance in order to get the exact temperature you desire.

There are a few other differences between what is an induction cooktop and glass cook top ranges that you should be aware of before deciding which one to purchase. The most obvious difference is that one is generally more expensive than the other. One of the reasons why this is the case is because it uses electromagnetic coils, which means that it needs to be placed directly over a heating element. Glass cook tops do not require any of these coils, so the cost of such an appliance becomes justified.
