North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.
After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.
A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.
The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so the glue could be completely removed.
Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.
It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Even so, I feel kind of sorry for the snake.
The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.
A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. It is very dangerous, according to the African Snakebite Institute. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.
Anyone who has been poisoned by the cobra will feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.
At Avian and Exotic Animal Care, veterinarian Salina Locke treats all kinds of pets.
The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. It is more likely that they will spray their venom . They are very accurate and go straight for the eyes.
Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.
Sleeping is when most bites occur. Bite victims can experience health problems for decades, research shows.
During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.

In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. Approximately half a mile away, they spotted the zebra cobra on a porch, prompting them to return on Monday and Tuesday.
Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords name shows several images of snakes that he claims his son Christopher owns.
TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. The author of the post claims to have a seven-foot zebra cobra.
