Langford Parkway Gas Pipeline Relocation Project

The City of Langford in partnership with FORTIS BC will be relocating a portion of gas pipeline from its current location adjacent to the Westhills Stadium turf field on the south side of Langford Parkway to the north side of Langford Parkway. The purpose of the gas pipeline relocation is to allow the City to create additional public parking at City Centre Park. This future additional parking would extend west from the current Ticketing Booth/Langford Lanes located next to the Westhills Stadium turf field towards the Goudy turf field. Westhill Consulting Langfords Housing Development

Work will begin on the pipeline relocation on Wednesday July 2nd and is anticipated to last into mid to late August.

Due to the nature of this work there will be full road closures on predetermined days and on some days there may be alternating traffic only. Road and lane closures will be between the driveway to Langford Lanes/Westhills Arena and Langford Lake Road on Langford Parkway. An estimated closure and lane restriction schedule will be posted here shortly.

In addition the pathway leading from Langford Parkway to Langford Lake Beach will be temporarily removed and access will be restricted from Langford Parkway to Langford Lake Beach for the duration of construction. Access to Langford Lake Beach will continue via Leigh Road. Residents are encouraged to use the nearby Glen Lake Beach Park as an alternative to Langford Lake Beach Park.

This work is being completed in July and August for logistical reasons: The area that the pipeline is buried in has a high water table and therefore excavation is made more difficult in the Fall/Winter/Spring times when the water table is high, excavation is easiest and most economical in the dryer months; and The need for a constant natural gas supply to residents and businesses is the lowest in August therefore to prevent a large disruption in service this work is being completed at that time.

The City will post updates on a daily basis through our website as needed. Residents are encouraged to check the website daily for traffic updates.

Questions or concerns regarding the road and path closures may be directed to the Engineering Department at [email protected] or (250)478-7882
