LO.3 Interactions.

1-1 Interaction with Skye

I am doing a 1-1 interaction with Skye whilst she is at Parrots Playgroup.

Time - The time I will be talking to Skye is just before Lunch, that way I can observe her around her peers at lunch to see what is going on. I will be observing her peers reaction around her also how she reacts with them. This will give us an understanding to what maybe is happening to her.

Room layout- The room layout is one of her classrooms she usually works in but this classroom will be only a 1-1 interaction with me and Skye. I have laid out a snack and something to drink in case her throat gets dry from speaking to much. I also want to make her comfortable so I brought some colours with a drawing book. This will keep Skye busy. But I also want her to listen to me so I need to try and make it so that she isn't concentrating too much on the activity I chose for her.

Environmental Factors - If it is summer we wouldn't want the windows closed and the heater on, that wouldn't be comfortable for the children. Same with winter time. We wouldn't want the windows fully open and no heat to warm the children up. The lighting should be slightly bright so it isn't dim or blinding. If the light is dim it can make the child feel uncomfortable because most children are afraid of the dark.

Skills being used. (Verbal)
Appropriate language - Meaning no swearing, slang or any inappropriate words.
Most of the communication will be verbal, we will be talking with our voices but I need to control my gestures and my expressions whilst concentrating on Skye’s non-verbal communication.

Today I will be talking to Skye who is a 4 year old girl who is in nursery. We will be talking about her problems about making friends and how to build her confidence up. Also we want to talk about why she feels this way and what we can do to help her.

Beginning - I’ll welcome Skye in a room which she can get herself a drink also have a treat like a biscuit then ask her how she is and how her day went. This will help us build a bond to make Skye talk easier to me. We wouldn't want her to find it difficult to talk to someone she hasn't met.

Middle - This is when I'm going to ask her some questions on why she cannot make friends, did something happen in the past or she's afraid because she could get pushed aside. We want to get it out of her so we can help. We will have to be patient with all this and not rush, being patient will help us understand Skye better and be able to have our tone at a steady manner.

End/winding up - After the session I will observe Skye's actions and how she is around other children. I will also call home to inform her parents on Skye's behaviours and feelings. This will help Skye since she will also have help from home. I also want to place her into a different class to see how she reacts with different peers, maybe there would be a difference of her actions.

Group interaction with Surinder

Today I will have a group discussion with Surinder.

In the group Surinder tells us about his lifestyle, we learn that he isn't able to stop his eating habits which lead him to become overweight. He is 70 and would like to change his routine so he can live healthier than he is now.

Room layout - The room would have to be fairly large since it would be a group discussions. The room will have 5 seats, 1 for me and the other 4 for my group, there will also be a table where we would sit around. I would like to have a window open for fresh air (if summer), a heater (if winter) which would let people feel comfortable.

Beginning - I'll welcome Surinder into the group since it's his first day, we'll make him feel comfortable first by talking to him so we can introduce ourselves. This will help him warm up and possible help him speak about his problems.

Middle - This is when we will ask him questions about his lifestyle about what he eats, if he does any exercise or anything to help him loose weight. We will give him advice on what he should eat whilst talking about the nutrients and why it will help him.

E.g- If for breakfast, he eats 2 eggs, two slices of toast and a generous amount of beans we shouldn't just take away an egg, or a toast since he will feel hungry instantly, what we should do is probably decrease his amount of beans so it doesn't feel like there were a difference.

Ending/winding up - After the session I decided to give him a leaflet which will have information about how he can live healthy at his age. Also I’d like to keep a contact with him just in case he is finding it hard to loose weight and needs some advice which should help him slowly. Also I’d like to change his whole meal plan what will help him feel good about himself while eating food that would help him.
