Socrates là một triết gia nổi tiếng người Hy Lạp cổ đại. Ông sinh năm 469TCN ở Athens. Một ngày nọ có thanh niên trẻ hỏi ông rằng bí mật của sự thành công là gì. Ông đã hẹn gặp anh ta vào buổi sáng hôm sau ở ngoài bờ sông, khi đó ông sẽ trả lời.
Buổi sáng hôm sau, Socrates bảo người thanh niên nọ cùng đi xuống dòng nước. Khi nước đã lên đến cổ, ông bất ngờ dìm anh ta xuống. Người thanh niên hốt hoảng tìm mọi cách vùng vẫy để ngoi lên, nhưng rõ ràng sức mạnh của Socrates quá lớn, anh ta không thể làm gì được cho tới khi cảm thấy gần như ngạt thở.
Nhưng bằng hết sự cố gắng cuối cùng, sau một thời gian vật lộn khó khăn thì anh ta đã có thể ngoi lên khỏi mặt nước. Anh ta thở hổn hển và hít thật sâu.
Khi đó, Socrates hỏi: “Cậu đã muốn điều gì nhất khi bị dìm dưới nước?”
“Lúc đó tôi không nghĩ tới bất cứ điều gì ngoài việc tìm mọi cách để thoát ra và hít thở không khí” – người thanh niên trả lời.
“Đó chính là bí mật để thành công. Lúc mà cậu ao ước mình có thể được thở bằng không khí cũng như cậu khao khát có được thành công vậy. Cậu sẽ nỗ lực tìm mọi cách để đạt được nó”.
Một khát vọng cháy bỏng là điểm khởi đầu cho mọi thành tựu. Nếu không có ước mơ, bạn sẽ chẳng bao giờ có được thành công. Cũng giống như một ngọn lửa nhỏ không thể tỏa ra nhiều nhiệt, một mong muốn yếu ớt không thể tạo nên những kết quả tuyệt vời.
